Our mission in the Test Development Department is to support and enable construction craft professionals in their educational and occupational journeys by providing industry-leading tests and assessments. To do this, we provide valid and fair tests and assessments that produce useful and actionable information about craft professionals’ proficiency and job readiness.
NCCER is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Testing Specialist to join our team. You will work closely with senior psychometricians and subject matter experts to create and validate tests that meet industry standards for reliability, validity, and legal defensibility.
Key Responsibilities- Review and edit test items based on internal test specifications and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development, review, and validation of test items for various construction-related crafts and certification programs.
- Conduct and manage workshops (i.e., virtual and in-person) with subject matter experts to develop test items.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
- Participate in test assembly and form creation processes.
- Support the maintenance and update of item banks and test forms.
- Assist with conducting job/task analyses and developing competency models for construction craft families.
- Assist with the development of test specifications for item development and test assembly.
- Assist with the development of standard setting processes and workshops (i.e., virtual or in-person).
- Work with internal team members for project management tasks and responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Measurement, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Measurement, or a related field.
- Understanding of foundational psychometric techniques (e.g., classical test theory).
- Analysis and statistical reviews to evaluate the performance of test items.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R).
- Experience or internship in test development, educational measurement, or a related field.
- Familiarity with the construction industry or technical education.
