Ecosystem Manager

Fly.io

Job Description

We're building something ambitious at Fly.io: a new public cloud, running on our own hardware all over the world, built to make it easy to run apps close to users wherever they are.

Fly.io is part of an ecosystem. We work with our accelerator and investor communities to help brand new companies get started on our platform. We also collaborate with companies that build tools for developers—like Supabase and Tigris—to make the dev experience on Fly.io even better and more seamless. We want to take that current ecosystem—our partner companies, investor and accelerator communities—and open it way up.

That's where we need your help! We want to bring on new partners, expand our relationship with the existing ones, and pave an easier path for new users to get to us from YC, a16z, and all the rest of the networks where devs building cool shit congregate.

We already have a great team handling our ecosystem's technical needs, so this role will be focused on finding and building relationships with companies that share our mission to make things easier for devs.

This role is right for you if:

  • You're a DevTool sommelier: informed, opinionated, credible. You may not be an engineer, but you can understand and articulate the value of tools like Supabase, Upstash, or Arcjet and why they're interesting to Fly.io customers.
  • You're an influencer and natural-born connector. You already have relevant relationships across a network of companies that might be perfect for Fly.io as new partners, new customers, etc.
  • You're comfortable navigating uncharted territory. You can build a partner program from scratch and source new partnership leads yourself.
  • You're a creative negotiator. You can find outcomes that benefit all parties, and you know how to run a not-gross sales process.
  • You're a clear, clean communicator. You get the details right, your writing is grammatically correct, and your deck designs are tasteful.

You'll know you're succeeding in your job if:

  • Your experiments are resulting in an expanding ecosystem of companies we're stoked to work with.
  • Revenue from our current partners is increasing, because you're finding new ways to work with them that benefit everyone.
  • Folks within Fly.io feel you're bringing in the right kinds of companies, and folks at those companies feel like Fly.io is a great fit for their needs.
  • You're finding out about interesting partners before they're widely known and getting intros to those companies through your network.
  • It's becoming easier for companies from our accelerator and investor communities to find out about Fly.io (i.e., sign-ups from these networks are increasing).

More details

This is a mid career level, fully-remote, full-time position. Most of our partners are in the United States, so you'll need to live in the US or be available during US hours and be able to travel occasionally to meet partners in person.

In order to optimize for pay equity, Fly.io doesn’t negotiate salaries. We have standardized salaries for each employee level. The salary for this role is $134k or $190k USD, depending on level. We offer competitive equity grants with a long exercise window. US employees get health care, everyone gets flexible vacation time (with a minimum), hardware/phone allowances, the standard stuff.

Our hiring process may be a little different from what you’re used to. We respect career experience but we aren’t hypnotized by it, and we’re thrilled at the prospect of discovering new talent. So instead of resumes and interviews, we’re going to show you the kind of work we’re doing and then see if you enjoy actually doing it, with “work-sample challenges”. Unlike a lot of places that assign “take-home problems”, our challenges are the backbone of our whole process; they’re not pre-screeners for an interview gauntlet. (We’re happy to talk, though!)

If you're interested, mail jobs+ecosystem@fly.io. You can tell us a bit about yourself, if you like. Please include a link to the landing page of a developer tool you think is particularly great so we know you're not a bot.
