Job Description


We're building something ambitious at Fly.io: a new public cloud, running on our own hardware all over the world, built to make it easy to run apps close to users wherever they are.


We've built something people want. Historically, we've been all self-serve growth - developers can find us, sign up, and build things on their own. But that's only one side of the equation! We also need to be able to go out and spread the word to companies who haven't heard about us and would do well on Fly.io.


One type of company we're particularly interested in talking to are those who want to run AI workloads close to their users on our GPUs. These companies care about security (which we're great at). Maybe they're building in regulated industries (like Finance and Healthcare) and are extra cautious about making sure their stuff isn't used as training data. (We would never.) These companies want to ship their AI apps fast and they have FOMO because their teams are stuck.


That's where you come in. We don't have a "sales org" at Fly.io yet, but we need someone to focus on sales to these kinds of companies. You'll find them, get warm intros to the right people, build a relationship, and help them see why Fly.io is the right platform for what they're building. And—this is super important—you'll do it in a way that's beneficial for everyone involved. We care about building cool shit and bringing it to the people who need it, not being mercenary sales monsters. We want you to get us in early at small companies that'll grow just as much as we want you to land big customers.


This role is right for you if:

  • You're proactive and you like experimenting. You’ll try lots of different ways to find customers who fit this use case and start conversations with them.
  • You know how to run a not-gross sales process. Any outside folks who interact with you are going to walk away thinking highly of Fly.io, whether or not they become a customer.
  • You might be a developer, you might not! Either way, you know enough about AI and what Fly.io does to be dangerous (i.e., have a conversation about how the two go together).
  • You're a persuasive problem-solver. You can build trust quickly and get deals that create value for Fly.io and our customers across the finish line.


You'll know you're succeeding in your job if:

  • It's easier for companies shipping AI apps to find Fly.io and understand why we're a great fit for what they're building (i.e., revenue from these customers increases).
  • You're building a deeper understanding of what our AI-focused customers need and are helping to shape our GPU offerings.


More Details

This is an mid career level, fully-remote, full-time salaried position. It is not commission-based because we don't have a sales org yet; that might change in the future. You can live anywhere in the US; your work hours and holidays observed are up to you. In order to optimize for pay equity, Fly.io doesn't negotiate salaries. We have standardized salaries for each employee level. The salary is $134k or $190k USD, dependent on level. We offer competitive equity grants with a long exercise window. US employees get health care, everyone gets flexible vacation time (with a minimum), hardware/phone allowances, the standard stuff.

Our hiring process may be a little different from what you’re used to. We respect career experience but we aren’t hypnotized by it, and we’re thrilled at the prospect of discovering new talent. So instead of resumes and interviews, we’re going to show you the kind of work we’re doing and then see if you enjoy actually doing it, with “work-sample challenges”. Unlike a lot of places that assign “take-home problems”, our challenges are the backbone of our whole process; they’re not pre-screeners for an interview gauntlet. (We’re happy to talk, though!)
