State Policy & Government Affairs Manager
Job Description
Redwood Materials is seeking a State Policy and Government Relations Manager to lead our state-level advocacy efforts. They will develop and implement strategies to influence state policies and regulations that impact Redwood Materials' business objectives and sustainability goals. This leader will build and maintain strong relationships with state legislators, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders while working cross functionally with internal legal and business teams. They will monitor and analyze state legislative and regulatory activities, advocate for Redwood Materials’ positions, and ensure compliance with all state lobbying and ethics laws.
Responsibilities will include:- Develop and implement state government relations strategies to advance the organizations positions.
- Build and maintain relationships with state policymakers, industry groups, coalitions, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor state legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the organization’s interests.
- Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and relevant departments.
- Ensure compliance with state lobbying, ethics, and reporting requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing internal policies and procedures related to state government relations.
- Coordinate coalition-building efforts and engage with industry groups, advocacy organizations, and other partners to support policy goals.
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for state government relations while identifying emerging policy trends and issues that may impact the organization.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, public relations, and program departments, to align state advocacy efforts with organizational priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field. An advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPA, MBA) is preferred.
- Ability to identify and comprehend key technical aspects of corporate operations in political environments, know the business implications, synthesize all information and make strategic recommendations.
- Proven ability to effectively interact at the highest corporate, regulatory agency and state government levels.
- Deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes and a demonstrated track record of building and maintaining relationships with policymakers and other stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues clearly and persuasively.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop strategic policy recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
- Experience with legislative tracking and advocacy tools is a plus.
- Ability to travel to state capitals and other locations as required.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
